
Hey all, welcome to the devlog.
In this creative journey we are starting today, we are going to learn together how to build a Path Tracer from scratch. We're going to use different online resources, but mainly we are going to cover all the Peter Shirley's Ray Tracing In One Weekend Book Series.
We're going to try to review mathematical concepts behind Ray Tracing covered in this Book Series. Also we're going to port examples from the book (written in C++) to GLSL into Jitter in Max.
In order to still having fun while studying, we are looking up for cool Shadertoy examples in order to get familiar with Ray Tracing mathematical method, and Path Tracing rendering technique on itself.
My idea is to begin with simple Path Tracing examples, port them into Max (in order to get familiar with the environment). Next step, we are going to start building a Path Tracer from scratch. Baby Steps.
Ray Tracing by no means is an easy task. It involves a lot of abstract and theoretical concepts we need to grasp first in order to fully understand them.
Then, we need to apply those concepts into coding (in our case GLSL) in order to build a Path Tracer.
I know it sound scary at first. But don't worry. We'll be learning new things in this journey together. And of course there's a lot of online resources from others creators that will be very useful in order to achieve our main goal in these series of videos, which is to understand and build a simple Path Tracer.
You'll need to have an intermediate/advanced level of GLSL knowledge in order to keep up with the pace with upcoming series of video tutorials.
Stay tuned for the next video, in where we are going to start porting a Path Tracer shader from Shadertoy into Max, with the aid of several objects, mainly jit.gl.slab.
We're going to do a lot of GLSL coding in Max!
